Fine Arts College in India

The Indian village of Naggar in Kullu valley, Himachal Pradesh will soon be home to a state-of-the-art Roerich International College of Fine Arts. The fine arts college was a dream of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the world renowned painter Nicolai Roerich to develop Naggar village as a center of art.

Curriculum at the school would be designed to teach different forms of art, and the campus design will be a combination of Himachali and Russian architecture constructed in an ecologically safe manner. The funds for the school will come from the International Roerich Memorial Trust, the Russian Embassy and the state government. The Roerich family has a long history in the Kullu valley, where they own an estate that includes an art gallery and the 'Urusvati' Himalayan Research Institute. This estate is considered one of the unique treasure-houses of world culture.
