The UT art college and the College of Natural Sciences announced differing forms of budget cuts. The Liberal Art College and the natural science college both stand by their methods of cutting the budget.
The art college has given out another round of retirement incentives to the eligible professors to carry forward the budget cuts. The first such measures were taken in 2009 and this measure will help the art college cut its budget by at least $500,000.
According to Jamie Southerland, Assistant Dean for Business Affairs, these 38 packages have been offered to reach the goal of cutting the budget of the art college by at least $3.5 million. After these incentives are accepted, the college will have a reduction of 10% in the staff.
The college has already cut $9.3 million from its budget since the measures were put in by the recommendations of the Academic Planning and Advisory Committee. These cuts have been made by offering retirement packages to several staff, faculty and lecturers and also by reducing the academic centers' budget.
